The following Assessment Instruments are currently offered as print-outs. These formats reflect one basic principle: “Only assess the aspects of language use that the students have been exposed to in the lessons or course.” We are currently active in developing further instruments and means for assessing both student progress and student needs...
We’d like to emphasize the possibility that the files themselves (and portions of files) may all be used as assessments as well...
The “General File” assessment form can be used with any and all the files in this curriculum... It is also parallels in form and format the lesson file plan... that is to say, by posing objectives as fluid, flexible and selectable in the moment (on the file planner itself) and by keeping track of the outcomes of these lesson-by-lesson objectives, we can also (by recording the sequence of lesson objectives over time) assess our learners on the exact content in which they have been giving their effort and attention...
The one-to-one relationship between lesson-by-lesson objectives and outcomes and the content and implementation of student assessments reiterates TLW’s basic assessment principle: “Only assess the aspects of language use that the students have been exposed to in the lessons or course.”
We have also included a more “straight-forward” and “traditional” assessment form for learners focusing on pronunciation...
We hope these forms enable you to make the most of your students’ progress....

Introduction: All the elements presented in the testing files are also located in the lessons themselves. This is an attempt to make them valid... that is, to test the students on what they have been working on and learning in the classroom.
The audio portions of the test are recorded... the same voice will be heard by all. This is an attempt to make the test reliable... that is, to present the same content to all students consistently.
The lesson files have been included below the three tests for purposes of review or reference. The scoring instrument is available to print out and score manually or, if you have more than one computer available, you may fill it in by typing onto the scoring document right on the screen while the student performs the test. Please present the assessment in a comfortable and casual style. |
